For now...
Such a lovely weekend, over too soon! But it won’t be long before we’re back again, so leaving Lachen this morning wasn’t quite as hard as it could have been.
The clear blue sky made all the greens in the landscape sing and we look forward to when our own patch returns to normal. We’re not used to seeing such a dry outlook at home!
We had plenty of time so we chose to take a different route and headed over towards Rapperswil. When I see the castle, I always remember the concert we went to high up there in the Rittersaal (seventeen years ago, I just checked!) It was memorable for all kinds of reasons, but mostly because the views from those windows were of snowy mountains and listening to glorious music with such a spectacular background was magical.
Today, the views were of blue skies and vineyards.
And early morning bathers by the lakeside, only one of whom protected his modesty with a towel!
Zürich airport is a familiar place and having dropped off our car, I went in search of a couple of regular purchases here. Several levels are connected by those extraordinarily long escalators which go from the top floor right down to the railway station underground. I was just heading down one floor, to the shopping level.
The Sprüngli shop here has a great selection of the most delicious cakes and pastries, including our favourite Zuger Kirschtorte - except, much to my disappointment, that is no longer the case. What a blow! The assistant suggested another couple of possible sources, but I had no joy in either of those. Oh well, next time, we must remember to think ahead.
I found a couple of other favourites in the Migros supermarket down here, so my efforts were not totally wasted!
In stark contrast to Schiphol airport last week, the check in hall was pretty empty and our fears of long queues were unfounded. Our flight was likely to leave from the most distant terminal, so we caught the shuttle train and enjoyed Heidi’s farewell almost as much as we enjoyed her Hello when we arrived.
The lounge here has an open air terrace overlooking the tarmac, so waiting for a flight is actually quite fun!
There’s a never ending series of comings and goings, trains passing along the line over in the background and it’s all rather entertaining. My Hero opened the FlightRadar24 app on his phone and we followed flights here and there, waiting for our own plane to arrive in good time for our departure.
All was well until he spotted that a CHair flight took off and almost immediately returned, landing a few minutes later to be greeted by a flurry of emergency vehicles. Oh dear. Here’s hoping it was nothing serious.
Our flight left on time and arrived just over an hour and a half later to a pretty calm LHR5, where we were reunited with our luggage shortly after I took this picture. Heathrow Terminal 5 was the first baggage collection area I have seen of late that did not have a single unaccompanied piece of luggage anywhere! Hopefully, all of that is now being sorted out and we are returning to some kind of normal.
Fingers crossed!
