Into the warren
We’ve had a lovely couple of days here in the Spring sunshine. Edward was here overnight and though it would have been good to have seen Amy and Oliver too, I am sure she appreciated a quiet weekend at home with none of the railway hassle that seems to accompany any weekend travel these days. My Hero drove him to Swindon yesterday afternoon to avoid some of the last-minute disruptions of his journey here and having waved them off, I came back inside and settled down with the newspaper.
Except I wasn’t really in the right frame of mind to read any news - it’s all so heartbreaking right now, isn’t it?
I guess I don’t need to explain how that headline caught my eye though? I was fascinated the read this article about knitting songs and a new show that would tell the stories of some of them.
Those images of the sheet music reminded me of the knitting song my Dad always quoted, “Knitting a Singlet for Cecil”, about which I’d written a blog post ages ago.
So reading that last paragraph - and wanting to find out more about the show that was being produced - I followed the link to the website and found that old blog post to remind myself. Maybe that was one of the missing songs? I decided to email the author just in case.
That blog post title “Falling down the rabbit hole” perfectly describes what happened next though. I guess I was in the mood for some kind of distraction, having the house to myself and nothing pressing to do. So I read all about the crossword and Cecil’s singlet, finally coming to the links to a Spotify playlist that I thought I’d listen to…
It was then that I noticed the name matched that of the email I was sending! Well, having created the playlist that had the one knitting song I knew already on it meant that my email would certainly not add to Melanie’s knowledge at all, but I found my little rabbit hole story quite fun and thought I’d share it with her anyway. I’m glad I did, for it seems we also share the delight in finding fascinating connections and new discoveries like this. I’ve dug that rabbit hole a bit deeper as a result and my Hero suggests that its turning into a warren…
I just wish we were somewhere nearer to one of her shows - I’ll just have to hope that she brings it a little closer to Gloucestershire!
