Great start to the day

Great start to the day

It’s one of those days that I love. The sun is shining and I got up early for my swim, feeling thankful that the horrendous rain and wind from yesterday afternoon had passed over. There was no traffic, the wait at the pool was short and I completed my mile slightly quicker than usual.

As I turned the corner to drive home, there was a lovely view of the town and I just had to pull over and get out my phone to take a picture - not brilliant quality but enough to remind me of a beautiful morning.

We’d had a call from friends yesterday to say they were going to be in the area this morning and we’re looking forward to seeing them later. That sounded like a fine excuse to stop by the bread van in the pub car park on the way home from swimming, then, and I grabbed a bag and my purse with plans to buy pastries.

Except…hang on a minute. That doesn’t look like bread to me!

I parked my car and wandered over to chat to the fish man, who was just setting up his stand alongside the spot where the baker usually parks. It seems that last week, he and the baker got together and agreed to coordinate their pitch on a Wednesday - what’s not to like about that?! I bought a couple of sea bass for supper whilst we waited for the baker to arrive and took a picture of his price list so I can be better prepared next week.

Five minutes later, the baker set up shop and I was faced with the difficult decision about what to choose - or rather, what leave behind. Everything here is scrummy!

As I waited, though, I heard a conversation going on by the fish counter. “Yes, the sardines are excellent this morning. A couple of them with a bit of pesto on a toasted slice of their sourdough bread - delicious”.

Yes, four fresh sardines found their way home with me as well.

Fish, bread and I were all home by 8.30am too. What a great start to the day.
