Out of practice
We got out our suitcases and travel bags thinking that perhaps we should begin putting a few things together for our road trip, coming up shortly. Up until the start of last year, we travelled so frequently that I could pack my bags really quickly and could tell by the shape of the gap in the bottom layer that I’d forgotten something. All of those US Road Trips, living out of this suitcase night after night, I always put things in the same place so I could find them easily without the need to disturb everything else.
This time wasn’t so easy however. I just can’t get my head around what I need to take. Will it be warm? (Unlikely) Will it be cold? (possibly) Will it be wet? (silly question)
Even my book of lists didn’t help much. What a good job there’s no rush to get it done right now - we’ve got a couple more days yet.
Getting it all together so soon brings its own challenges though. I know that, given the chance, I will just keep putting more and more things in, “just in case”. Ian the small bear has staked his claim to a space in my bag already though.
The art kit is sorted, at least. Since this is a “road trip” of sorts, I am approaching it in the same way as one of our usual summer road trips and intend to do a journal and will blog too. But there will be one significant difference.
Mary won’t be with us 😢
She has assured us she’ll be with us in spirit, but we’ll miss her singing (or so she tells us 🤣).
