W day minus 1 - we (and the cake) arrived safely!
My main task this morning, according to Kelsie's schedule was to faff about, put the cake into the box and then relax. Hmmm. Driving to St Mawes didn’t leave much time for that, but I felt sure that once there, I would be able to complete that last instruction.
The other thing to do was to put together a cake rescue box with a jar of ganache, a palette knife, the cake topper and a few spare flowers ‘just in case. Kelsie suggested a hairdryer too to soften any bits that might need smoothing out. Actually there are quite a few of those, but let's not worry about all of that!
The cake itself travelled in a perfectly sized box with sides constructed from my favourite foam core board. It sat comfortably in the boot of my car, secured by the luggage net and didn’t move an inch during the journey. When we arrived a young man came to take our bags and I introduced him to the box, now clearly marked ‘this way up’ and so on. ‘No problem, Mrs Thomas, I will put it straight into the fridge.
And that was the last I saw of it.
We are now all here in St Mawes, my Hero having driven down with Bettine and sister Mandy whilst I drove Edward and various wedding paraphernalia. We arrived at the same time as Amy's parents and look forward to getting together for dinner tonight.
We'll now focus on savouring every moment of the next couple of days and a full report will follow once we are home again. Dare I say that it had just stopped raining?
