An Elegant Sufficiency

First of the 2019 season

Christmas dinner, that is.

It was a glorious morning in Tetbury and having snagged the last spot in the long-stay car park, I thought I’d have a browse around before lunch.

Look who I spotted first! Sorry about the reflections - that bright sunshine brings a few challenges! Aren’t they a sweet bunch?

There are no chain stores in Tetbury, just local, independent shops selling interesting, lovely (and occasionally, rather expensive!) things!

But we can all afford a nice bit of cheese, can’t we? Especially from a shop with such a beautiful door wreath!

The tiger seems to be taking a holiday this year and instead, in the window of Bristows shop a magic carpet is flying off to who knows where. (Actually, just stepping inside that magical shop is a similar experience)

Whilst those fortunate non-drivers sorted out their bottles of wine in the bar, I took my ginger beer into the dining room of The Snooty Fox and captured the “before” picture of the table.

Each place setting had all the accoutrements a member of my WI might need (the glass of prosecco was brought to the table later) The party popper, the screaming balloons that we can’t blow up for laughing, the noise makers (as if we need any of those) and the cracker with the essential party hat (all red this year) and terrible joke, not to mention the little gift inside. Strangely, there were an abundance of bottle openers this year!

Since I wouldn’t dream of embarrassing anyone (they know who they are) you’ll have to make do with the “after” shot to understand what a great time we had. The staff at the Snooty Fox take very good care of us indeed, the turkey and trimmings were delicious and as we drifted off, one by one, there were calls of “see you next week”. Because next week, we have our Christmas Party and believe me, that’s an occasion not to be missed!
